State Climate Offices/Regional Climatologists

Your local climatologist is a great source of information about drought as well as other weather- and climate-related data and tools for the past, present, and future. The climatologists partnering on this project are located within university departments or are housed at a State Climate Office. Each climatologist provides different resources, including:

  • historical weather and climate data
  • state-specific drought monitoring information
  • a map-based tool with lawn-and-garden moisture index values
  • reference evapotranspiration estimates
  • maps of topsoil moisture conditions
  • graphs with likelihood of big rain events
